I have to confess that when Roger invited me to join Arts for Arts Sake I was not sure how it would take off and what benefit, if any, there would be for me to join. I seem to spend a lot of my time writing blogs or responding to Face Book, that I was not sure if I wanted any more. But, I liked the idea. A site for artists in the true sense of the word.
Let's face it, how many of us are complete mysteries to our family? My father asks how the 'little job' is going and my mother keeps asking me where I get my ideas, get up and go, and will to write from. I am the first person in the family to get higher education, to write and take photographs for a living, to think nothing of standing up in front of an audience of people and talk, to seek new challenges in my field and, frankly, my family don't get it. I am sure that you, dear reader, will have had a similar experience. This is why I joined up with Arts for Arts Sake and it is now, several months later, that I am starting to see the benefits as people who do get it, come forward.
I admit I am lazy, people are coming to me to be friends, rather than my going to them. This is not deliberate. I have a book deadline looming and am spending all my time writing about folklore, if I am not editing The Woman Writer for the Society of Woman Writers and Journalists, or doing something for Writing Buddies, the group for writers in Southampton I founded in May. Recently I have started tutoring non-fiction writing for a distance learning college and that takes time too. So, really, I hope I can be forgiven for my laziness in not yet seeking out like-minded souls on this site. I will when I have a moment.
This is the first time I have blogged on this site too. I wonder if I will get any response? It would be good to hear from other artists, with your views on this site and its benefits.
For now though, I have to get back to my folklore. The deadline is the beginning of January and that is not far away!
