Well, I've just added another painting to the site. That could be good or bad depending on one's point of view. It's called Modern Life and is just sort of a general comment about the nature of things as it exists today. It's not quite as frantic as the last piece but still kind of interesting. I also painted in a slightly different style than I usually do so that made things a little more entertaining. Doing things slightly differently than one is used to is really the only way to keep it inter…

I have to confess that when Roger invited me to join Arts for Arts Sake I was not sure how it would take off and what benefit, if any, there would be for me to join. I seem to spend a lot of my time writing blogs or responding to Face Book, that I was not sure if I wanted any more. But, I liked the idea. A site for artists in the true sense of the word.
Let's face it, how many of us are complete mysteries to our family? My father asks how the 'little job' is going and my mother keeps asking me…

Cherry-Blossoms Falling Like Snow
by Gordon Coombes
I
In the glow of street-lights
snow falls
melts on our skin
turned to ice
our hearts are broken
shattered by the weight of Cherry-blossoms
falling as thick as snow-
glowing hot embers
inside us
children of fire
children of ice-
brutal sharp edged
ice cold dreams & delusions
take the axe to the ice
inside
our spirit frozen over
lingering lurking
in a few thin centimeters
in the folds of mud
at the bottom
beneath a mile deep frozen ocean-…

While traveling we always have new experiences, whether they are amazing, life changing or just disillusioning. Tell us your travel story. It may deal with a travel journey to a new place, time traveling, revisiting one's past, visiting a lost love or a new one, or an inner journey. Travel reports can be as much about one's internal navigation of their emotions as a physical voyage.
There is currently running a free-to-enter short story contest on BookRix for writers and readers. The theme is "…

Wow! Florida is sooo hot! And I'm not even in the hottest area! Right now plein aire painting is better as it is lots cooler-in the seventies. Now I just have to find all my stuff and get out there. Everything is in boxes and they are piled up all over our small rental. We are working on a house however. Made an offer. Now just waiting as it is a short sale. I will have my own room with a closet and a nearby bathroom to clean brushes, get water, etc. Pretty good light-though it could be better.…

Outside the Windy City
lives the Lady Finnegan -
Carol dearly loves the Lord Jehovah
and is a part of His earthly plan.
Her heart has been pierced
by God's Holy Spirit;
for she placed her life before Him
and has chosen to submit.
Her adoration for the King
has burst forth with heart's joy,
from reading her great nephew's literature
within the borders of Illinois.
Now she's become God's messenger
via her gifts of Joe's Christian poetry -
For the fragrance of God's Love
envelopes her with scrip…

Now that people are becoming more aware of my poetic efforts, interests are being expressed regarding the background of my poetry - in addition, to my spiritual muse. Back in the Spring of 1980, I graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a B.A. in Mathematics. I chose this discipline because it was my favorite subject in school. This poem is the first and only piece (to date), where I apply this learned knowledge.
Back in February of 2007, I found a poetry contest - its challenge wa…

Now that people are becoming more aware of my poetic efforts, interests are being expressed regarding the background of my poetry - in addition, to my spiritual muse. In this installment, I briefly look at the crucifixion of Christ - an event central to the core beliefs of Christianity. This poem was composed in February 2007, in anticipation of that year's celebration of Resurrection Sunday (Easter).
If I were relegated to a single television channel, it would be the "History Channel". It's am…

1. What caused you to write a book and have it published?
Thankfully, I’ve enjoyed a career in IT (Information technology) for over 25+ years. However, I’ve been downsized out of a job four times – the last time in 2005, I was unemployed for nine months. During that time, I looked at over 19,000+ companies to find one job. With more jobs in my field being outsourced to lower wage earners overseas, I decided I needed an exit strategy from the corporate world to launch a more stable career and inc…

Film dissertation or a critique is not a hard job to do, but to create a dissertation on a classic film would be an interesting and a research based project as you have to go through all the history and the making of a movie, and in which circumstances it is planned, how many people were engaged and who are the directors, producers, actors because a classic dissertation on a film can not be created with out going in such details as the film is renowned among millions of people.
Film Studies Dis…

Now that people are becoming more aware of my poetic efforts, interests are being expressed regarding the background of my poetry - in addition, to my spiritual muse. In this installment, I share the background and poem "In Remembrance of Grandma".
I recognize that most of you reading this article will not know much about my maternal Grandmother, other than what you're able to glean from this page. However, there are universal lessons that need to be shared. This poem was originally written for…

Those disembodied remnants,
Earthly remains of unknown souls,
are now assembled at my doorstep.
Having piqued my attention,
who are these unwelcome houseguests?
Loved ones or Nordic heroes
who were consumed in funeral pyres?
How old are these molecules
that have been forever scattered
during these past centuries?
Unwanted leftovers of human containers,
eaten by microscopic mites,
nibble at my presence
and wait for my spirit to dry up.
The dust calls for my fated demise;
However, my particles won…

Hello all.
About a year ago I produced a short series of tech based video pod-casts, which served as a sort of pilot. 'Mac Junction' has been shelved for now while I am pursuing new forms of broadcasts. I had previously produced a music based pod-cast in the electronic music genre and developed my skills in producing a regular monthly pod-cast.
It was during my time working on Mac Junction that I decided to broaden the scope of production and not limit my output to just tech based production.…
