Hi Janine, how are you? There is one thing for sure there is so so much bullshit said and written about art. Art is a form of expression, it should come from your soul. It is not down to how commercial it is or how beautiful it is either. Art can ...

Hello again Janine, I'm wary of people that put such a high value on technique. Form over substance. Isn't that antithetical to all conceptual art? And, if you're speaking of musicians instead of visual artists, the song written by the composer c...

Hi Lisa, Yes, I understand you. It's in the putting to oneside of all knowledge about a form and seeing what it looks like in the first instance and then translating that onto whatever support is being used. Unless I've misunderstood Pater, he s...

Hi Janine- Well, I'm talking about art as a log of being. To create something, you must take something apart, either consciously or subconsciously, and then put it back together. You know what a cat is for instance or a cloud. or a catcloud. You ...

Popular culture successfully appropriated by Pop Art

I think it is fair to say that many people share a deep puzzlement or cycnicism about art that is too far removed from their personal ideas and expectations. I also think that a work of art that needs additional information to arouse sufficient interest to contemplate or gaze doesn’t quite succeed in it’s primary purpose, although that opinion is probably far too purist in practice.

Welcome Aboard. I only started this site in October 2008 and I am proud to have so many artists join in such a short time. Now semi-retired, I live in Hastings on the South Coast of England, you know, Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror, 1066 and all that.
It occurred to me that some sort of network was needed for artists, photographers, writers and poets to pool ideas, exchange views and promote their work. It is new and we will go along together, tell me what you require and we will see if we can do it. It is free; I know that artists are poor penniless souls working in lonely garrets, living on tins of cold baked beans, so I do not want to add to their worries.
If you wish to change the theme/style of your page, click on change theme on the left hand side of your page. If any of your friends and relations are artists, writers, poets, sculptors, in fact anything artistic, let them know they would be most welcome to join the site. Once again, welcome aboard.
